Plotlines: Narrative Reports
Experimental. Plotlines stays experimental until a real deck is beautiful. Presentations are the pack to send. This guide is for staff experimenting with narrative frames.
Plotlines transform survey data and analysis results into structured narrative reports. This is experimental — do not send a Plotlines document as the deliverable.
Creating a Narrative
- Open All pages at the foot of the sidebar and choose Plotlines under Understand
- Click New narrative
- Link the narrative to a survey or an analysis as the data source
- The platform begins analysing the data and generating a narrative outline
Narrative Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Narrative created, analysis not yet started |
| Analyzing | AI is processing the data source |
| Ready | Narrative complete and ready to review or publish |
| Archived | Narrative finalised and moved to archive |
Editing a Narrative
Once a narrative reaches Ready status, open it to review and edit:
- Section headings — Reorganise or rename narrative sections
- Paragraph content — Edit AI-generated text to match your voice and emphasis
- Key findings — Highlight or suppress specific data points
- Charts — Choose which visualisations to include
All edits are saved automatically.
When you generate a narrative, Start an action plan is the action door — the same one as survey Improve and analysis Improve. A recommended line becomes the finding the action plan starts from. It does not dump a kanban of follow-up tasks.
Sharing
Narratives can be shared with stakeholders by exporting to PDF or by generating a read-only share link. The share link renders the narrative as a web page — no login required for recipients.
Note: Plotlines are personal — each narrative is owned by the user who created it. Other team members can be given access on request.
